A new model for player development

T1 and the system we are creating exist because we are solely focused on what happens inside the diamond. Our belief is that if you provide kids with a clear objective, track their learning, and make development an interactive process, then they will have better outcomes.

Objective

Our objective – develop players who excel in the four areas below – guides everything we do, from how we run our teams to the clinics or training programs we offer.

Skills

Players have optimal and efficient movement that allows them to throw, hit, and field at a high level.

Physical Tools

Players have the strength and quickness necessary to generate speed and velocity.

Approach

Players are able to absorb, process, understand, and respond to information swiftly and effectively - especially in challenging situations or after failure.

Teammate

Players communicate effectively, foster trust, remain reliable under pressure, and are willing to put the team's interest above their own.

Process

The processes we have built (and continue to build) are how we reach our objective.

Tracking

We use several tools to track development so players can review their progress over time.

Goals

We give players objectives that can be measured and observed, giving them concrete goals to reach.

Plans

We develop plans to help players reach their objectives and have an overarching pathway to bring players up through baseball.

Efficiency

We believe training is a waste of time if players are not working toward their objectives, so we structure practices, training sessions, and clinics to help players accomplish their goals.

Roadmap

Our roadmap provides a structure (and checkpoints) for players in our system.

Academy

9U-12U

Players here begin working toward our goals by developing skills that will matter long-term, learning foundational mechanics, how to handle success and failure, and how to be a great teammate.

The focus is entirely on "me vs. me" and "us vs. us" – getting better individually and as a team takes precedence over winning (our players and teams want to win, but that is not how we evaluate success).

We limit travel and number of games to better prepare for the future: (1) practice is far more important for development than games; (2) this helps prevent burnout and injury; and (3) helps reduce the overall cost of baseball for families.

Ascension

13U-14U

Players here build on foundational mechanics and are introduced to advanced concepts. We begin to emphasize training the physical tools - strength, quickness, agility - necessary to compete at a high level. Players have the tools necessary to reflect and learn from success and failure.

The focus is still on "me vs. me" and "us vs. us", but players and teams gain awareness of where they are amongst their peers.

We limit travel to the northeast; players are expected to play 30-40 games in addition to school baseball. We offer Summer teams (focused on practices over games) that extend the season into August.
